Skateboarding Workshops

ASH Skateboarding Workshops are 4 consecutive Saturday skate sessions that help participants build confidence on and off the board through hands-on instruction, guided practice, and a supportive group environment. Kids can expect to grow their skate skills while learning safety, responsibility, and respect for the skatepark and community.

Requirements

  • Workshops are open to ASH members of all ages and skill levels

  • Workshops are limited to 5 participants

  • Participants must provide and wear a helmet

  • Participants must be registered and have received a confirmation email from the instructor

What kids can expect to learn:

  • Balance, stance, pushing, stopping, and turning

  • Beginner to intermediate skateboarding skills

  • Skatepark etiquette and park safety

  • How to care for and maintain a skateboard

  • Safe skating practices outside of the skatepark

  • Goal-setting, perseverance, and encouraging others

Meet Our Skate Instructor

Neil Thurman

Neil Thurman brings more than 20 years of experience in youth development, education, recreation, and skateboard instruction. His background includes work with AmeriCorps and the I Have a Dream Foundation, leadership with the YMCA of Boulder Valley, and teaching roles with the Boulder Valley School District. As a CPR/First Aid certified and insured ASH skateboard instructor, Neil creates safe, supportive, and engaging lessons that help young skaters build skills, confidence, and comfort in the skatepark.
