OVERVIEW
Every Summer, the Association of Skateboarders in Hawaii (ASH) hosts a 4 contest series throughout the State of Hawaii. Contestants enter in one of four divisions (13 & under, 14-16, 17+ and Sponsored) and have two 45-second runs to land as many tricks as possible. Scoring is based on technical ability, use of park obstacles and, of course, style.

The top 6 scores from each division will move to the finals. Each finalist will receive two 60-second runs. Scores are averaged from both rounds to determine 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers. Points are tracked throughout the series and first place series finishers in each division are awarded an all-expense paid trip to Woodward West Skateboarding camp.
PARTICIPATION GUIDELINES:
  • Registration starts at 9am at the designated skate park and ends at 10am. Divisions are capped at 20 skaters and based on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please arrive early!
  • Skaters must pay an ASH membership fee of $5 annually.
  • Skaters must also pay a $5 entry fee for each contest. With an exception to the those named in the Invitational Finals.
  • Skaters must read and sign our waiver form to be permitted to participate in each contest. Skaters under 18 years of age must have a parent or guardian sign their waiver.
  • Skaters must provide their own skateboard, shoes and protective gear.
  • Keep a positive attitude and have fun!

JUDGES
Presenting the 2017 ASH Contest Series judges panel. This year, we'd like to tell you a little more about the judges who will be each contest. At each event, three out of the following panel will be scoring your runs.

Neil Thurman
I have lived on Oahu for almost 3 years.  I moved here from Denver/Boulder Colorado in June of 2014.  I have been skateboarding for well over 30 years.  I also love to snowboard and SURF!  Main reason for moving to Oahu was to be near the ocean and to fully pursue surfing.  I owned and operated my own skateboard camps in Colorado called Square State Skate.  I now run Skate Skool out here on Oahu.
Picture
Alf Kondo
Started skating street, ditches, mini and vert ramps in 1987.  Like to build stuff to skate with my friends and watch professional skateboarding on the mainland.

Chris Kono
I started skating right around the year 2000 with some friends from school. It was also right around the time Tony Hawk landed the 900 at the X Games, It got 10 year old me hooked. 2 years after that Keolu Skate Park was built (thanks Chuck) and I've been there ever since.

Ian Okui
Started skateboarding in the late 1980s in Mililani. Won some games of S-K-A-T-E, but has the worlds worst kickflip. Feels comfortable skating anything, but prefers a nice mini ramp. Probably the last remaining people on earth that ride a 7.5 board. Favorite skateboarders: Tom Penny, Mariano, and Hosoi. Will always have headphones on, don't worry Ian can still hear you. Catch Ian at Aala park or Makiki for a game of S-K-A-T-E.
